By Jacqueline Carey
Last weekend (or probably the weekend before) I promised that I would read every book of Carey’s. Well, I did get every one of her current paperbacks. And yes, it was all worth it. Oh yea, here’s the warning:
This book has adult themes. Be careful about letting your child or teen read it.
This book continues with Melisandre’s missing child, Kurshiel’s scion. He was first raised in Blessed Elua’s temple, and then was captured by slave traders. He was only ten years old… the time of apprenticeship for many children of this land. Anyway, Phebe and her Casseline pursue two goals: find the child, and save her friend Hyacyinth from a curse.
I won’t tell you anymore of the plot. If you are interested, I suggest you read it. For myself, I spent two-three days reading the books from end-to-end. It is better than the second book, but not as good as the first. The writing is excellent. I would give this book 4.5 stars.
