King’s Property

By Morgan Howell
ISBN: 978-0-345-49650-8

Dar, a serf, is sold to the Army as a cook for the Orcs. But instead of cowering, she learns the culture and language of the orcs. She learns to survive in the treacherous climate of a campfollower.

Howell did a good job with the first book in this series. I enjoyed Dar’s unique perspective on slavery and how she saved herself and her band of Orcs from the king’s magic.

The plot, characters, and culture were interesting. I give it about 3.5 stars. Howell will be powerhouse in the fantasy genre soon.
