L.A. Requiem

By Robert Crais
ISBN: 0-385-49583

Crais writes a true noir, but no real femme fatale driving the story. I could see Chandler’s ideas behind much of the story. But Crais’ voice was true. I was completely swept up in the story of Joe Pike.

In the story, you mostly follow Cole (Joe’s partner). One of Joe’s girlfriends dies in a brutal fashion. Her father calls Joe. He wants Joe and Cole to watch the police because he doesn’t trust the police’s detective skills.

I really enjoyed the book. It was not straightforward, but had several twists and turns. I give this book 4.5 stars.
