One More Visitor

Since I put seeds on my balcony, I always have bird visitors. However, this bird was very unusual. He was in the fir tree opposite my balcony. Also, he was at eye-level.

After I took several shots, he flew to a cottonwood tree in a neighbor’s yard.

I suspect he is a juvenile red-tailed hawk. This summer a pair of red-tailed hawks built three nests in the area. One of the nests was in the fir trees in our apartment complex. They would look down at us. I think they were shopping for small dogs. (a delicacy?)

Anyway, the Western scrub-jays chased them away. (I guess that is why they wanted several nests to confuse the scrub-jays.)

It is amazing how many birds and small animals we have seen in our small city including coyotes, deer, horses, and bear.
