Development of Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis (Wegener): Listen to the Patient.

From the Education Centre, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, University of Western Australia, and Department of Rheumatology, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Queensland, Australia.

Patients with rare or complex conditions may sometimes come up with the right diagnosis because of their previous exposure to the condition.

The rest of the abstract is here.

What I have to say: Doctors – listen to your patients. It is really true that there are a few of our members who found the Vasculitis support group before they were diagnosed with a form of the disease. Many times they were able to help their doctors diagnose their disease. For me my husband had already figured out my disease even before the doctors had decided that I had WG. We live in an age of information. Although doctors live with patients, they don’t always have the time to research. So listen to your patients and realize that we want to be well.
